Five pages, actually.

Meeting #24: The Evolution of Image
Mar 03, 2010 - 11:02 PM - by JohnLees
Hey Clubbers! I was disappointed in the lack of response to our last meeting on Warren Ellis. I’m sorry if you’re not enjoying the current direction Comic Book Club is taking, but fear not – this particular block comes to an end with the next meeting, and then we’re moving onto something new. In the meantime, I hope you find something that interests you in these last couple of meetings on... [Read More]

Meeting #23: The Ellis Aesthetic
Feb 17, 2010 - 10:35 PM - by JohnLees
Hey Clubbers! I took a longer break between meetings this time round to let everyone (myself included) catch up with the reading. But now we’re back with our extended look at comics beyond the superhero genre, and while over the past couple of meetings we’ve been studying genres (crime, war) in this meeting we shift our focus onto one particular writer: Warren Ellis.

Of course,... [Read More]

ID:	8506 So recently, I got a chance to talk to the lovely Vanessa Marshall. A professional voice-over artist for over 10 years, Ms. Marshall is probably a familiar voice to comic fans. After voicing the likes of Mary Jane in the Spectacular Spider-Man and Vertigo in Wolverine and the X-Men (as well as the Huntress in the Justice League Heroes video game), Ms. Marshall has recently completed what may be her highest profile comic book role yet: Wonder Woman in the animated movie Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths. Ms. Marshall kindly took time off from some auditions to answer a few questions:

So, how did you get into voiceover work?

By accident! I was an on-camera actress and was not booking work at all. In 1998, I did a one woman show with 15 different characters, and a voice over agent (who attended the show) recommended that I look into voice over. She then invited me to read at her agency (as a kind of audition), and ultimately she decided to take me on as a client. I have been with her ever since. I was very lucky! After a year of classes, I started booking work. I was having so much fun that I gave up on-camera acting completely.

You play a lot of established characters in your body of work, with roots in various other mediums. Do you do research into the characters you... [Read More]

ID:	7355 I recently had the opportunity to talk with Jim Balent and Holly G from Broadsword Comics about Jim’s Tarot: Witch of the Black Rose, Holly’s School Bites and everything in between. After visiting their website it looks like Holly has been busy working on the overhaul and it’s looking great! With their down to earth demeanors and loyal fans, it’s no surprise that they are nominated for more of the Project Fanboy Awards this year.

Attachment 7345Scott Williams: Jim & Holly, thanks for taking the time to talk to Project Fanboy once again. So let’s start out with Tarot. It’s been going strong for about ten years now and will soon be hitting its sixtieth issue. Looking back over the years, would you have done anything different with Tarot?

Jim Balent: March 2010 will be our ten year anniversary for BROADSWORD COMICS and Tarot, Witch of the Black Rose. I don't think I would do anything different. The characters and stories took a natural evolution as the years went on.

I'm pleased how the books are turning out and I look forward to... [Read More]

ID:	6802 In This Week's IndieCreator The King of Chill Meets The King of Kill. Heske Horror's Bob Heske (Cold Blooded Chillers) Interviews Devil's Due Tim Seeley (Hack/Shash). There Will Be Blood!

IndieCreator: Insights from a Newbie Comic Creator & Other Industry Pros

This is a series of bi-weekly columns on InvestComics (www.investcomics.com) by Bob Heske @ Heske Horror, creator of The Night Projectionist, Cold Blooded Chillers, and 2012: Final Prayer, featuring interviews and insights from indie comic artists, writers, creators, distributors and visionaries.

13 Questions with HACK/SLASH Creator Tim Seeley

Attachment 6794Back in 2004, Tim Seeley created the stylish and sexy HACK/SLASH at Devils Due Publishing. Today, he's sitting atop a franchise that has spawned several successful "one shots," an ongoing series, and an upcoming movie (potentially) starring Megan Fox (Transformers 1, 2 and 3). Not to mention, he recently got married. Life is good for this horror comic rock star.

For those of you living under a rock these past 6 years, here's the high concept behind HACK/SLASH:

ID:	6511 After being blown away by the first issue of Nola from Boom Studios, Project Fanboy writer and Louisiana resident Michael Roberts had the opportunity to interview series creator Chris Gorak and writer Pierluigi Cothran. Gorak is mostly known for his film work (writer / director of Right at Your Door, and art director for a number of big films), while Cothran has spent his time in the television industry working on shows like Alias and Heroes.

Project Fanboy: Hi guys, thanks a lot for taking time out of your busy schedules to talk about NOLA #1, which hits stands today, Nov. 18th.

First off, can you give our readers the quick pitch for what this story is about?

Chris Gorak: Nola is avenging the death of her mother. She seeks justice for those responsible. Nola is a revenge tale told when the city goes dark. In the time immediately following Katrina, New Orleans had no power, no police, no law. And for a few very long days and longer nights, the world did not know what was happening on the streets of New Orleans, and this is when Nola got to work...

PF: How did this book come about? Did you approach Boom with the idea, or did they ask you for any stories?

Chris: I approached Boom! with the idea. I bumped into Ross Richie and Andrew Cosby one day and we got to talking.... [Read More]

ID:	6094 Attachment 6094On Saturday, November 7th, FAMOUS FACES AND FUNNIES in Melbourne, Florida, hosted their first MINI-FREE COMIC BOOK DAY. Along for the fun was writer TONY BEDARD. He was gracious enough to talk to me about his current projects for DC COMICS, the ongoing R.E.B.E.L.S. series and the 10 issue miniseries for China’s super team, THE GREAT TEN. Here’s what he had to say.

Attachment 6093SEBASTIAN: How did you get the GREAT TEN gig? Was this something they came to you with, or was this something you sought out?

TONY BEDARD: They offered, but I was already interested; so I was really happy.

SEB: What about the GREAT TEN had you so interested?

TONY: When I heard that Grant Morrison was handing off some concepts I knew it would be a lot of fun. I’m also very into Eastern thought and I find China interesting from both a news and politics stand point.

SEB: Do you have a favorite of the Ten?

TONY: Ya know…I don’t. I don’t really have a favorite. Each issue focuses on one of the Ten, so that’s fun. I get to give each of them their turn at the center. I figure, if you can... [Read More]

PHIL HESTER & BRIAN CHURILLA interview
Oct 21, 2009 - 7:38 PM - by SebastianPiccione

Name:	Anchor_01_cvrA.jpg
Views:	974
Size:	339.6 KB
ID:	5757 In between their various projects, (it's staggering how much these two are working on) fan favorites, Phil Hester and Brian Churilla found some time to chat with us about their BOOM! STUDIOS project, THE ANCHOR.

SEB: So, how did the two of you come together to create The Anchor?

Phil Hester: I'm a fan of Brian's earlier effort, The Engineer. So much so that I sought to buy a few originals from it for my collection. That started a conversation in which we learned of our mutual admiration. The rest is history!

Brian Churilla: Truth be told, I bribed him with said originals. And hookers. And cupcakes too, don’t forget the cupcakes. Hooker cupcakes.

SEB: Hooker cupcakes? Lil' Debbie what has become of you!!??
Who is the Anchor?

P.H.: Problem is, he doesn't know for sure. We can surmise that he's a monk, more specifically an anchorite monk. Anchorites were monks so devoted to monasticism that they literally walled themselves off from humanity in the foundations of churches and monasteries.

Well, our guy seems to have done that, but during his centuries long meditation while an anchorite he seems to have gained certain powers, including a nearly indestructible body and the ability to project his soul into hell where it spends every second fighting the... [Read More]
